Abbie joined the practice in 2010 as a laboratory technician and now has the role of laboratory supervisor, which involves ensuring the smooth running and development of the on-site laboratory; including quality assurance, good practice and trying not to get covered in any form of sample during processing! Abbie has a FdSc in applied Bioscience and is currently continuing her studies in the same topic, which allows her opportunities for research projects in her areas of interest, parasitology and mastitis bacteriology. Abbie also co-ordinates the Synergy Smallholder membership package; organising workshops, creating newsletters and being the contact for all our smallholder members, a role she thoroughly enjoys as she has aspirations of the smallholder life herself.
Abbie grew up spending time at her nearby grandparents farm in South Somerset where her love for agriculture and horticulture began. Abbie now spends as much time as possible walking with her aging Jack Russell, (and foraging tortoise edible plants), in the seasonally changing countryside, working in the garden (hopefully producing vegetables), or when it is too dark to be outside, making crocheted gifts and being surrounded by good friends, family and music, including playing the fiddle in a folk ensemble and trumpet in a local big band.
