Dave's role at Synergy Farm Health is Veterinary Technician Manager. He oversees the everyday management and development of Synergy’s Vet Tech Services, as well as being responsible for the 14 skilled technicians employed by Synergy. As well as being a manger, Dave also is a professional and licensed hoof trimmer and mobility mentor.
Dave's involvement with cattle and the agricultural industry is well supported with over 30 years’ experience in the milking and management of dairy cows after starting work on dairy farm as an assistant herdsman at the age of 16. He then went on to work for Kingfisher Vets foot trimming and furthermore joined Synergy Farm Health during its formation in 2009.
Dave joined the Vet Tech team in early 2012. He has worked with cows since leaving college, both in organic and conventional systems. Dave holds the National Diploma in Hoof Trimming and is a trained lay ultrasound scanner. As well as Dave’s day to day on farm jobs he is also responsible for running the vet tech team on the East of the practice which is now based at Dorset Equine Centre in Witcombe. If he doesn’t see enough cows during work hours Dave has his own herd of pedigree Longhorn cattle and recently won reserve champion in the native breed class at Dorset County Show.
Daryl joined Synergy’s Vet Tech Team in February 2013, and predominantly carries out foot trimming in a roll over crush, this is a great piece of equipment that is suited to large foot trimming routines, smaller breeds of cattle and bulls. Daryl is also a trained lay cattle pregnancy scanner and carries out other services such as freeze branding, dehorning, disbudding, heifer weighing.
Although not originally from a farming or dairy background, Matt has plenty of animal experience from his previous position as Head Zookeeper at Cricket St Thomas. He enjoys the variety of work his Vet Tech role brings from foot trimming, freeze branding and disbudding to helping the Smallholders with animal health tasks and sheep shearing.
Gary joined the vet tech team in March 2013 after working for many years as a herdsman. Gary’s main roles as a Technician are foot trimming, freeze branding, and disbudding. Gary is based in the South of the practice and outside of work enjoys running his small herd of pedigree South Devon sucklers cows.
Tom grew up on a large mixed farming and sporting estate in Hampshire where he became interested in farming and livestock. After leaving school he travelled to Canada and the USA for two years working on farms and plantations. Tom predominantly carries out foot trimming on a day to day basis. His interest and the part of his job he finds most rewarding is the successful treatment of lame cows. He enjoys the interesting variety of his work and meeting different people.

Outside of work his passions are hunting, shooting and fishing with his family and working their spaniels.
Andrew joined the Synergy team in 2018 as a Vet Tech based on the East side of the practice, is also a ROMS approved mobility scorer and undertakes the majority of the 0-6 Youngstock work which includes disbudding and weighing.
Before Synergy Andrew grew up helping his father who was a herdsman on a local estate. After leaving Kingston Maurward College Andrew furthered his passion for livestock by overseeing the day to day management of a large organic sheep flock and calf young stock unit.
Colin is well known by our clients on the North & South of the practice due to his previous employment working for Kingfisher Vets from 1999 – 2007 as a foot trimmer. He then continued working as a self-employed trimmer for 11 years before joining the Synergy team in 2018. Prior to this Colin had been employed at local dairy farms where he honed his livestock skills.
Marc joined Synergy as a Vet Tech at the start of May 2018, working in the north of the practice. He mainly foot trims but also does some freeze branding, calf disbudding and locomotion scoring. Previously, Marc had spent 17 years working in the dairy industry as a herdsman where he gained an interest in cattle lameness and prevention.
Outside work Marc enjoys spending time with his family and two dogs, helping with his own cattle at home and playing the odd game of golf when time allows.
Rhi joined the Synergy team in March 2015 and is a Clinical Veterinary Technician, her main focus is the coordination of the Vet Tech team, but she also assists with vaccinating, mobility scoring and organisation of training courses and is part of the lay TB testing pilot scheme. Rhi graduated from the Royal Agricultural College Cirencester in 2013, gaining a BA Hons Degree in Agriculture and Animal Science. She went on to work as an Assistant Manager on a large dairy farm and was responsible for fresh and dry cow management as well as the rearing of young stock. During this period, she took a three-month sabbatical to work on a beef and dairy farm in Zimbabwe.
Lucy joined the vet tech team in 2015 as a work experience student from Bridgwater College whilst studying for a degree in Agriculture. She did such a great job that we never let her leave! She is now employed by Synergy on a part time basis and carries out mobility scoring and assists the other Technicians on large disbudding and freeze branding jobs. Away from Synergy Lucy works on her family dairy farm on the Somerset Levels.
Molly has joined the Synergy team in a part time role that sees her carry out our newly launched vaccination service for all youngstock and herd vaccines, as well as assisting the Vets with research sample collection. She comes to us with a vast experience of working with cattle. Molly continues to help her family with their suckler herd and relief milks on a local dairy farm.
Abbie joined the practice in 2010 as a laboratory technician and now has the role of laboratory supervisor, which involves ensuring the smooth running and development of the on-site laboratory; including quality assurance, good practice and trying not to get covered in any form of sample during processing! Abbie has a FdSc in applied Bioscience and is currently continuing her studies in the same topic, which allows her opportunities for research projects in her areas of interest, parasitology and mastitis bacteriology. Abbie also co-ordinates the Synergy Smallholder membership package; organising workshops, creating newsletters and being the contact for all our smallholder members, a role she thoroughly enjoys as she has aspirations of the smallholder life herself.
Abbie grew up spending time at her nearby grandparents farm in South Somerset where her love for agriculture and horticulture began. Abbie now spends as much time as possible walking with her aging Jack Russell, (and foraging tortoise edible plants), in the seasonally changing countryside, working in the garden (hopefully producing vegetables), or when it is too dark to be outside, making crocheted gifts and being surrounded by good friends, family and music, including playing the fiddle in a folk ensemble and trumpet in a local big band.
Sam joined the Synergy Team as a Laboratory Technician in June 2016, before this she spent 2 years working in the Blood Sciences Laboratory at Dorset County Hospital, she has also worked in pet insurance as a claims assessor.
Sam has a BSc (Hons) in Animal Health and Welfare and is an AMTRA qualified animal health advisor (K-SQP). Sam enjoys her varied job role, dividing her time working in the in-house laboratory at Evershot and taking care of surgical kits and veterinary equipment.
Sam has lived in Dorset most of her life, but crossed the border moving to Somerset in summer 2016. Outside of work Sam enjoys working on home improvement with her husband, relaxing with her ginger rescue cat and visiting family in East Dorset. She is a keen snowboarder and loves spending time in the mountains.
For those that have visited and collected dispensary goods from Bartlett’s Country Store in Bere Regis, you are likely to have come across Kath. Kath has worked for Synergy Farm Health for 9 years and part of her role involves successfully running the Synergy desk in store & selling POM-VPS products and other consumables. Having qualified as an R-SQP in 2009, Kath is able to advise on products for farm, companion and equine species.
Kath trained in agriculture on leaving school and has had experience in working in milking cows, as a stock person and being involved in lambing. Kath’s keen interest in farming developed and now runs her own flock of sheep.
When not at work Kath spends her time successful running her glamping & campsite business and showing her rare breed sheep at all the local country shows.
Fiona joined Synergy Farm Health in 2016 and started her employment with the company as a receptionist. Fiona later diversed within the practice and is now one of our Retail Sales Assistants.
Fiona enjoys getting out and about meeting our clients, delivering medicines and supplying consumables straight to the door as part of the practices ‘Hotel Fridge’ Service. Fiona has currently undergone exams to become a qualified Animal Health Advisor (SQP) and eagerly awaits her results.
Prior to joining Synergy, Fiona has had a varied background in agriculture having been to Agricultural College and having worked for various companies including the milk marketing board, Dairy laboratories, selling semen and latterly in an abattoir.
Fiona lives with her family in Crewkerne and when not at work enjoys spending time with her family, friends and dogs. She is very involved in clay shooting and as her main hobby tries to go every week.
Karen lives in the South of the Practice and has 2 sons and 1 daughter all of whom are grown up. She went to Kingston Maurward College where she studied Agriculture where she met my husband Tim.
Karen joined Synergy Farm Health in April 2018 as a Retail Sales Technician. Her job role entails: Supporting dispensary and retail teams with a variety of tasks, including medicine deliveries to farms and centres.
Karen's personal interests are cooking, cars, animals and most of all her grandson who was born last year, who keeps her very busy and always puts a smile on her face.
Mikey is part of the Retails Service Team who are out on the road delivering medicines and farm sundries. He is one of 3 Retail Service Members who travel the roads of Dorset, Somerset & East Devon. Mikey is also one of Synergy’s qualified Animal Health Advisors and can confidently advise on worming or fly control issues that clients may have in conjunction with their health plan. Mikey has proudly held his AMTRA Animal Health Advisor Qualification for 12 years.
Mikey has been part of the team for just over 6 years and when not a work he can be found cycling around the Dorset countryside.
